Guiding Light of The Month

O Lord, how ardently do I call and implore Thy love! Grant that my aspiration may be intense enough to awaken the same aspiration everywhere: oh, may good- ness, justice and peace reign as supreme masters, may ignorant egoism be overcome, darkness be suddenly illu- minated by Thy pure Light; may the blind see, the deaf hear, may Thy law be proclaimed in every place and, in a constantly progressive union, in an ever more perfect harmony, may all, like one single being, stretch out their arms towards Thee to identify themselves with Thee and manifest Thee upon earth. - The Mother

Trip to Pondicherry in Commemoration of The 40th Anniversary of the Sri Aurobindo Society, Singapore

In this issue, we conclude our reminiscence and reflections on our collective trip to Pondicherry with the contributions of reflections from two of our younger members, with aspirations of more of such meaningful get-togethers

From the diary of Vishnu…..

In the recent December holidays, the Sri Aurobindo Society, Singapore, embarked on a journey that was truly a blissful one. It was the trip to the Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Pondicherry, to commemorate the successful running of the Singapore Society for the past 40 years. The trip turned out to be both a fun and knowledgeable trip for everyone who took part in it.

My first impression was that it was only going to be a series of talks and nothing interesting for the youth present, but how wrong I was. To be truthful, none of the activities was boring. The trips to the Samadhi were so peaceful and calm. Every night, with the special entry card issued from our guesthouse, we were able to sit beside the Samadhi even as late as 11pm. That was a totally new experience for me as I had never participated in night meditation sessions before that. The experience was so different, seeing the light shining from the tree above, as though the light came from heaven.

Of all, the activity that I enjoyed the most in the whole trip was my time as a volunteer in the Ashram Dining Hall. It was an experience in which I learnt a lot. Even though it was only 2 days of volunteering, I met many volunteers from all around the world and from different States of India. It felt so fulfilling after every volunteering session. I was able to learn about daily Ashram life while working hand in hand with them. I felt that those 2 days of volunteering was not a tiring job, but rather a service to our Masters, Sri Aurobindo and our Divine Mother.

From the diary of Mira …..

Sri Aurobindo Society, Singapore was founded in the year 1972 by a blessed few. Throughout the journey it has taken new dimensions, yet preserved it's few pillars. Every first Sunday filled with fitness and food, every darshan day an offering with devotion and creativity.

Now in 2012 when the society celebrated it's 40th anniversary, how best could we observe it than with the gathering of the Divine mother's children in the blessed land of Pondicherry! It was a wonderfully organized trip, which in a series of five days made it possible to experience the nuances of the Ashram which included a visit to Sri Aurobindo’s room, watching the wonderful sports event in the stadium, a series of meditations, the walk and brunch being arranged in Auroville, to mention a few of the memorable events.

It was an opportunity to stride back in time of the society's journey and a chance to seek the Divine Mother's blessings to make our greatest of dreams for the society and for all its members come true.

And here is a small poem on the society:

SAS's genisis in 1972
SAS's 40th in 2012

Through the journey it has been,
For few a second home
For few a place where a family was found
A place where the Mother's love is abound
For few their experiences make them spellbound
Knowledges’ new hub
Makes us a step closer to becoming the mother's cubs

Let us all pray that this journey extends to eternity
